Groningen 1-1 Vitesse: Teams share points in boring match

Vitesse and FC Groningen shared the point in a boring match in the Euroborg. Groningen took an early lead, but Navarone Foor equalized for the visitors just after half time. Foor saw a straight red after a wild tackle on Bacuna and is likely to miss the KNVB Cup match against Feyenoord on Thursday.

Vitesse started the match with almost a complete new midfield as Lewis Baker (suspended) and Marvelous Nakamba (Africa Cup) were absent for today’s match. Sheran Yeini once again played as defensive midfielder, while Julian Calor made his debut as midfielder. Groningen took a lucky lead after 6 minutes with Jenssen’s deflected shot ending behind Eloy Room. Vitesse were very poor in ball possession and failed to create anything in the first half an hour. It was Adnane Tighadouini who almost equalized in after 35 minutes, but his shot hit the post. Manager Henk Fraser was not happy with the performance of his team in the first half and decided to replace captain Guram Kashia by Matt Miazga after half time.

Vitesse put more energy into the match in the second half and it was Navarone Foor who equalized for the visitors after a brilliant cross by Milot Rashica. The second half was not very exciting either; both teams failed to create any big chances and made many wrong passes. Henk Fraser tried to change the scoreline for by replacing Calor for Osman and Van Wolfswinkel for Zhang, but the visitors were too poor on the ball. Van der Werff and Miazga defended well in the second half and Groningen ended the match with 0 shots on target.Vitesse, however, ended the match with ten men after Foor saw a straight red for a wild tackle on Bacuna. He will probably be suspended for the next couple of matches.

Next up for the Arnhemmers is the important cup match against Feyenoord this Thursday.
