Mukhtar Ali joins Vitesse on loan until the end of the season. The move comes on the back of Yeini’s departure in a bid to add quality depth to the squad. The midfielder will wear the #8 shirt.
It has been a busy transfer window for Vitesse. The management has been busy cutting the deadwood and adding quality to the side. Sheran Yeini’s year and a half long stint at Vitesse came to an end when the midfielder chose to to Maccabi Tel Aviv. This move left a gap in the squad in midfield positions with not much depth behind Baker and Nakamba. In a bid to fill that gap, Vitesse have signed 19 year old Mukhtar Ali from Chelsea.
Ali joined Chelsea as an U-11 and has progressed through the ranks of the academy. He established himself as a starter for the Development squad under Adi Viveash last season and played a vital role in both the FA Youth Cup and UEFA Youth league wins. With this move, he becomes the 21st player to join Vitesse from Chelsea on loan.
Mukhtar Ali combines the energy and tenacity of a ball winner with good technique and an eye for the pass. He can be a controlling influence on games, picking the ball up in deeper areas and progressing it forward as he is composed on the ball and can withstand pressure. He can also score the occasional long range screamer.
This signing may be one with a longer term approach in mind. These six months could help bed him in at the club so that he can play a more prominent role next season. It will be a good test for the 19 year old and easing him in to the physicality of professional football is probably the best approach. For now however, he will primarily be acting as depth for Nakamba and Baker.
Hopefully, he can find his feet quickly and push on to make a meaningful contribution this season too as Vitesse’s post winter break form has pushed them back into 4th place contention, not to mention the opportunity to win their first major trophy.
